IIT Delhi

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is an autonomous statutory organisation functioning within the "Institutes of Technology Act" as amended by "The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963". The seven Indian Institutes of Technology (others being at Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Guwahati Roorkee) are administered centrally by the IIT Council, an apex body established by the Government of India to co-ordinate activities of these Institutes. The Minister for Human Resource Development of the Government of India is the Chairman of the Council. Each Institute of Technology has a Board of Governors responsible for its overall administration and control. Mr. Rameshwar Pal Agrawal is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of this Institute.

History of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi


The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi the Senate decides the academic policy of the Institute, and approves curriculum, courses and examination results. It appoints committees to look into specific academic matters arising from time to time. The teaching, training and research activities of various departments at the Institute are constantly under review to improve both facilities and standard. The Director of the Institute is the Chairman of the Senate. Financial advice to the Institute is rendered by the Finance Committee. Similarly, there is a Buildings & Works Committee that advise on matters related to buildings and works activity. These committees are appointed by the Board of Governors. In addition, there are a number of other committees like the Board of Undergraduate Studies, Board of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Board of Educational Research and Planning, etc. appointed by the Senate to help the administration in the effectual running of the Institute. IIT Delhi is situated at Hauz Khas in South Delhi, which is a landmark place in the colourful and chequered history of Delhi. Well connected to the major city centres by open and wide roads, the Institute campus is about 19 Km. away from the Delhi Main Railway Station, 14 Km. from the New Delhi Railway Station, 21 Km. from the Inter-State Bus Terminal and 10 Km. from Delhi Airport. .

How To Reach

Reaching Delhi
Delhi is well connected by road, rail and air. Trains are available from all parts of the country to reach Delhi (Visit the Indian Railways Official website: http://www.indianrail.gov.in ). There are direct flights and hopping flights from and Mumbai to New Delhi. Deluxe and express buses ply to Delhi from Delhi, Jaipur and many other cities (Visit the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation Official website: http://www.rsrtc.gov.in/ )


From the Railway Station to the Institute
If you are arriving at Jodhpur Junction by rail, come out through Platform No.1 exit gate. You can take a prepaid auto/taxi for the Institute (IIT Rajasthan) situated on the Old Residency Road, Ratanada, Jodhpur 342011. You may ask the driver to take you to Ratanada circle near MBM Engg. College. It takes 10-15 min drive from the Railway Station to reach the institute.


From the Airport to the Institute
You can take a prepaid auto/taxi for the Institute (IIT Rajasthan) situated on the Old Residency Road, Ratanada, Jodhpur 342011. You may ask the driver to take you to Ratanada circle near MBM Engg. College. It takes 5 min drive from the airport to reach the institute.


From the Railway Station to IIT Residential Complex
If you are arriving at Jodhpur Junction by rail, come out through Platform No.1 exit gate. You can take a prepaid auto/taxi for the IIT Rajasthan Residential Complex, GPRA, Kendranchal, Vivek Vihar (Near Indian Oil Residential Complex and Bharat Petroleum Residential Complex) situated on the Pali Road. You may ask the driver to take you to Jhalamand Chauraha on Pali Road from where this complex is 3 km straight ahead towards Pali. The day time charges for auto-rickshaw should be about Rs.120/- from the railway station to the IIT Residential Complex on Pali Road. Night charges are usually higher (you may need to bargain with the auto-rickshaw driver).


From the Airport to IIT Residential Complex
You can take a prepaid auto/taxi for the IIT Rajasthan Residential Complex, Kendranchal, Vivek Vihar (Near Indian Oil Residential Complex and Bharat Petroleum Residential Complex) situated on the Pali Road. The directions to the driver are that same as those given above.
